In the beginning of a story, the hero or heroine usually longs for their goals and/or prepares to go out to reach it. Longing and dreaming is the start of a main character's life. There are many ways the hero or heroine displays this feeling:

  1. Gazing out a window.
  2. Singing a longing song (for example, "That's All I Need", "On My Father's Wings", "Who Will Sing My Song to Me", "Soon You'll Come Home to My Heart", "Reflection", "Part of Your World", "Jack's Lament", "Go the Distance", "One Jump Ahead", "Journey to the Past", "Rumor in St. Petersburg", "For The First Time In Forever", "No Other One For Me", "In Summer", "Over the Rainbow", "Maybe", "Soon", "Danny's Arrival Song", "A Place For Me", "One Jump Ahead", "After Today" "It's too Heavenly here" "Out There," "When Will My Life Begin," "God Help The Outcasts," and "My Name is James") or the hero/heroine's thoughts can be expressed in silence with instrumental music (example, "Binary Sunset")
  3. Stepping out a door.
  4. Wishing on a star.
  5. Entering a new environment.
  6. Looking at the sunset or into the horizon.
  7. Admiring others for inspiration.
  8. Making a bedtime prayer.
  9. Introducing him/herself.
  10. Talking at an interview.
  11. Praying in church.
  12. Speaking to a loved one.
  13. Beginning the first steps of a journey.
