When are you going to start doing something with that big brain of yours?
~ Tadashi Hamada to Hiro.

In many a story, the hero or heroine, or someone he or she cares about, can talk sense into another person. He or she usually does this when helping the protagonist learn his lesson, convince the villain to let go of his dark intentions or hatred, or remind someone to see what he or she is missing.

  • Tadashi Hamada tries to talk sense into his brother Hiro to use his brain and do something else instead of bot fighting after they get into trouble with Aunt Cass.
  • Moses tries to convince Rameses to let go of his stubbornness and pride.
  • Eggs makes an attempt to convince Archibald Snatcher to let go of his dark intentions.
  • Po convinces Lord Shen to let go of his hatred. Shen refuses and attacks instead, only to be crushed by his destroyed cannon.
  • Vision tries to reason with Ultron, but once the corrupted program denied his demand, he resorts to stripping him from the internet.
  • Bagheera talks sense into Baloo, reminding him he must take Mowgli back to the Man-village to keep him safe from Shere Khan.
  • Luke Skywalker tries to talk some sense into Han Solo to try to get him to participate in the assault on the Death Star.
  • Ashi talks some sense into Jack, reminding him of the innocent people he saved and how he regained hope in them, which prevented him from committing seppuku.
  • Brainiac 5 talks some sense to Kara
  • Bentley meets Murray in Venice and tries to get Murray to rejoin the Cooper Gang after he leaves the group and lives a life of peace as a student of the dreamtime in the Australian outback.
  • Hogarth Hughes talks some sense into the Giant, reminding him of guns kill and that he doesn't have to be a gun as he is what he chooses to be.
  • Madison Rocca talks some sense into Nick, reminding him that he is the team's leader and that he will never give up.

Baloo, you can't adopt Mowgli as your son. (Baloo: Why not?) (Bagheera sighs.) How can I put it...? Baloo. Birds of a feather should flock together. You wouldn't marry a panther, would you? (Baloo: I don't know. (chuckles) Come to think of it, no panther ever asked me.) (He gives Bagheera a playful nudge, but the panther gives him a stern look.) Baloo, you've got to be serious about this. (Baloo: Oh, stop worrying, Baggy, stop worrying. I'll take care of him.) Yes, like you did when the monkeys kidnapped him, huh? (Baloo [scratching his back]: Can a guy make one mistake?) (sternly) NOT in the jungle. And another thing: Sooner or later, Mowgli will meet Shere Khan. (Baloo: The tiger? What's he got against the kid?) He hates man with a vengeance, you know that. Because he fears man's gun and man's fire. (Baloo: But little Mowgli don't have those things!) Shere Khan won't wait until he does. He'll get Mowgli while he's young and helpless! Just ONE SWIPE! (Bagheera emphasizes his point by swiping a clawed paw towards Baloo.) (Baloo: Oh! Well, what are we gonna do?) We'll do what's best for the boy. (Baloo: You better believe it. You name it, I'll do it.) Good. Then make Mowgli go to the Man-village. (Baloo [now angry]: ARE YOU OUTTA YOUR MIND?! I promised him he could stay here in the jungle with me!) That's just the point! As long as he remains here with you, he's in danger. So it's up to YOU. (Baloo: Why me?) (Bagheera splutters.) Because he won't listen to me! (Baloo [with a sniff]: I love that kid. I love him like he was my own cub.) Then think about what's best for Mowgli and not yourself! (Baloo [rubbing the back of his neck]: Well, can't I wait until morning?) It's morning now. Go on, Baloo.
~ Bagheera talking sense into Baloo and telling him he must bring Mowgli back to the Man-village to keep him safe from the dreaded Shere Khan.

(Lord Shen: How did you find peace? I took away your parents, everything. I-I scarred you for life.) That's the thing, Shen. Scars heal. (Lord Shen: No, they don't. WOUNDS heal.) What do scars do? They fade, I guess. (Lord Shen: I don't care what scars do.) You SHOULD, Shen. You gotta let go of that stuff in the past, cause it just doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is you choose to be now. (Lord Shen: You're right...then I choose...'THIS!') (Shen pulls out his blades and attacks Po in a blind fury, but as he does so, he accidentally slashes the ropes holding up his destroyed cannon. The cannon topples over and crushes the wicked peacock to death. Po narrowly escapes as the ship explodes and sinks into the water).
~ Po convincing Lord Shen to let go of his dark intentions. Shen refuses and attacks instead, only to be crushed to death by his destroyed cannon.

We've really needed you at home. (Simba, with a scoff: No one needs me.) Yes, we do. You're the king. (Simba: Nala, we've been through this. I'm not the king. Scar is.) Simba, he let the hyenas take over the pride lands. (Simba: What?) Everything's destroyed. There's no food, no water. Simba, if you don't do something soon, everyone will starve.
~ Nala convincing Simba to return to the Pride Lands.

Rameses, your stubbornness is bringing this misery upon Egypt. It would cease if only you would let the Hebrews go.
~ Moses trying to talking sense into Rameses (to no avail)

(Phil and Meg arrive for the beaten up Hercules) Hercules! (Hercules: Phil!) C'mon, kid, fight back! C'mon, you can take this bum! This guy's a pushover, look at him! (Hercules (dully): You were right all along, Phil. Dreams ARE for rookies.) No no no no, kid! Givin' up is for rookies! I came back cuz I'm not quittin' on ya! I'm willin to go the distance. How 'bout you?'
~ Phil convincing a weak and powerless Hercules that he doesn't need his strength to defeat the giant Cyclops

Don't do this. It won't change who you are. Cheese, hats, boxes, they don't make you. YOU make you.
~ Eggs convincing Archibald Snatcher to let go of his greed.

(Helen Parr (sobbing): Now I'm losing him! What do I do? What do I do?!) What are you talking about?! (Helen Parr: Huh?) YOU ARE ELASTIGIRL! My God! (starts slapping Helen with newspaper) PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER! (Helen: Aah!) "What'll you do?" Is this-Is this a question?! You will show him that you remember that he is Mr. Incredible and you will remind him who you are! Well, you know where he is. Go! Confront the problem! Fight! Win! And call me when you get back, darling. I enjoy our visits.
~ Edna Mode literally beating some sense into Helen Parr to go out and find Bob instead of just sitting there sobbing hysterically.

(As the other kids argue, Cindy approaches a depressed Jimmy's cell) Jimmy, you there? Look, don't listen to them, they're just scared. You okay? (Jimmy Neutron (sniffling): Yeah...I'm fine..) Don't be so hard on yourself. We'll get outta this. (Jimmy continues to mope and cry) Okay, so you made a mistake. Beating yourself up isn't gonna fix anything. Y'know, I was the smartest kid in school until you came along. And I admit you know more about some things than I do. But I know one thing that you don't seem to get. And that's that we're never gettin' outta here without you. So why don't you buck up, mister and put that big brain of yours back to work. Nick can handle the fighting stuff, but first we have to get outta this cell. (Jimmy Neutron: Um, Cindy, why-why are you being so nice to me?) Because there's a bunch of kids in here that need you. And...I do too.
~ Cindy Vortex explaining to a depressed Jimmy Neutron that he may have caused the parents to be abducted by the Yolkians in the first place, but he's still the kids' only hope of escaping the dungeon.

Stop!!! (The Omen: "whacks Ashi away" This does not concern you. There is no hope.) No, hope lives! It is everywhere! I've seen it. Everyone you have touched. The people you have helped. You saved them! (The Omen: Enough! (Fights Ashi) Hope is just a fleeting sentiment. Your failure is real. You must face the consequences or continue to bear the guilt of your dishonor for all eternity.) Jack, don't listen! You're being misguided! I've seen it! You've saved COUNTLESS innocents-but most of all. (The Omen: "growls and attacks her") You showed me the truth! You made me see that there's so much more to me than I know existed! You made me way more than what I was! The hope you gave me SAVED MY LIFE! (The Omen: Death follows in your wake. Men, women, children. Yes, all those children dead because of you!) No! The children! They're alive! You saved them!
~ Ashi talks some sense into Jack, reminding him of the innocent people he saved and how he regained hope in them, which prevented him from committing seppuku.

(*Murray approaches Bentley* Murray: Sly said you were looking for me?) We need your help to destroy some tar drums. (Murray: I'm done with all that. I've found a new's full of peacefulness) Come on, what happened to "The Murray"? The guy who'd get into a fist fight with ten thugs wearing nothing but a towel? the guy who used to punch first and not bother asking questions later? Where's that guy? Where's my old friend? (Murray: I-I'm sorry Bentley. I-I tried to save you... But, I just wasn't strong enough.) Get over it, Murray. I don't blame you and never have. The only thing I feel bad about is losing my pal. (Murray: Look...I want to help you. You're like my second best friend! It's just that I promised I'd stay here and "peacefully" meditate till the black water ran pure.) Well...what if you could help us peacefully? You wouldn't have to punch anyone. (Murray: I'm in! Keep it peaceful and I'll smash up anything you'd like!)
~ Bentley trying to convince Murray to assist destroying the tar pipes

(A content Littlefoot walks over to his sleeping father, Bron. Just as he's about to go to sleep though, he looks up the hill sees something.) Huh? (At the top of the hill, he sees Shorty sulking away. Littlefoot runs after him. With his head hanging, Shorty sadly walks through the night. Littlefoot runs up to him) Shorty! Hey, Shorty! (Shorty: [glumly] Oh, it's you.) Yeah, it's me! Where you going? (Shorty: What's it to you?) It's just... it's getting dark out and you're out here all alone. My dad probably wouldn't like it. (Shorty: [scowls] Oh, right. Like he'd care. Now that he's found you, he'll ignore me like everybody else.) Shorty, you'll always be special to Bron. You've known him all your life almost. I just met him. I was kinda hoping. I thought... maybe we could be like... you know... like brothers. (Shorty lifts up his head. He looks at Littlefoot. Then he smiles. He and Littlefoot start to walk back to the herd.) C'mon, let's go back. (Shorty: Yeah.)
~ Littlefoot convincing a jealous and neglected Shorty not to run away, stating that Bron may be his biological father, but he deeply cares for Shorty too, and proposes that he and Shorty could be brothers. Shorty heartily agrees.

(the Giant tries to fire at Hogarth, but Hogarth calms the Giant down.) No, wait. It's me, Hogarth. Remember? It's bad to kill. Guns kill, and you don't have to be a gun. You are what you choose to be. You choose. Choose. (the Giant comes back to it's senses and remembers what Hogarth has said.) (Iron Giant: Hogarth.) (Hogarth discovers that Giant isn't hurting him and the Giant reverts back to it's normal mode.) It's okay, it's okay. You've got to show them your good. (the Giant looks at the army.)
~ Hogarth Hughes telling the Iron Giant that he doesn't have to be a gun and telling him what he chooses to be.

Don't you say that. Don't you say that. Not you. You have held us together through all of this. You will not give up. Listen to me! Giving up is not an option for you. We are a team and you are this team's leader we go on no matter what.
~ Madison Rocca telling Nick that he is the team's leader and that he will not give up.
